DRAW THE LINE // SEPTEMBER 15, 2020
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine.
Daniel did not push back on the name change or learning the ways of Babylonian culture, but he did draw the line on what was put inside him. He resolved, he made a firm decision that he would not cross that boundary. His three friends joined him in that commitment.
People can call us what they want to call us; we know who we are. Culture can teach us what it wants us to teach us; we know the truth. However, when it comes to whether or not we will obey God, we need to draw a line and choose obedience. We don't do this to earn his love, but rather because we are loved and want to honor him. It flows out of our identity.
God uses those with boundaries, even in the seemingly insignificant areas of life. Small compromises destroy big commitments. Your character is formed in small decisions on little issues on a daily basis. Today, where will you draw the line? What does it look like for you to walk in obedience to the Lord even in the small areas of life? How will you dare to be different? Commitments like this are easier to keep when we are in relationships with like-minded people. In your small group this week, discuss your boundaries and resolve to stand together. If you're not in a group, consider joining one. We are stronger together!
