PURPOSE OVER PLEASURE // SEPTEMBER 9, 2020
Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.
"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.”
In Jesus’ third parable he told of a son who had a spirit of entitlement, demanding his inheritance even before his father died. He then wasted his inheritance chasing pleasure.
Our generation struggles with an attitude of entitlement, believing that life owes us something. Life is then spent being self-centered and chasing pleasure. It is easy to buy into the, "I’ll be happy when..." mentality. But what makes you happy one moment can make you miserable in another. You can get everything you ask for and end up with nothing you want. True joy is found when pursuing purpose and having a spirit of gratefulness.
God has a purpose for your life; there is a reason you are on this planet! Living according to your God-ordained purpose brings meaning and fulfillment that the world cannot provide. Take time today to talk to God about the plans he has for your life. Journal what you hear God speak into your heart and thank him for the opportunities he puts in your hand.
