The Hated – Day 4

You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another.

Matthew 10:22-23a

Jesus was up front with his crew: if you're with me, you'll be hated. His advice? When persecuted in one place, just go somewhere else.

We've all heard the expression: take the loss! But an offense hits our pride, and that's something we all struggle with. If we have power and authority and are still rejected ... ouch! Pride has a tough time understanding closed doors. Pride says, "I'm too good to lose -- too gifted not to get what I want." Pride believes if we want it, it should want us. Pride holds us hostage, refusing to let us move on without an explanation: "I'm not moving on until I understand why I didn't get it." Jesus told his crew not to hang around trying to make it work or figuring out why. He said to accept the loss, and move on. Don't argue, don't file a grievance, don't beg or plead. Just pack up your stuff, and get outta there. If we stay in it, we'll never get over it.

How do you handle it when pride creeps up? Is there an area of your life where you may need to just take the L? Proverbs 29:23 says that those with humble spirits obtain honor. Ask God to help you "take the loss" and to show you what humility looks like in your situation. Remember he has the best in store for you!
