It's Worth the Wait – Day 2

Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.”

So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?”

“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.”

Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.”

1 Samuel 16:10-11

Jesse was presenting seven of his eight sons to Samuel to anoint the next king. But Jesse had overlooked his youngest son, David, who was tending sheep.

We can work hard, have longevity and be loyal to a company, and produce better results but still be overlooked. It's one thing to be overlooked by strangers or even a boss, but David was overlooked by his own father. Yet we often tend to focus on whether we're promoted by people, but when we're picked by God, it doesn't matter how many people overlook us. He'll promote us!

Are you struggling because you feel overlooked by a boss, a family member or friends? Fix your eyes on God. He has a lot to say about who you are, and it's included throughout scripture so you can find it, learn it, internalize it and remind yourself anytime your gaze has shifted. He said you're his child (John 1:12), his friend (John 15:15), an heir (Romans 8:17) and his temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). So where you go, he goes! And no matter who is overlooking you, remember he chose you (Ephesians 1:4)!
