Here Comes the Light – Day 5

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth).

Ephesians 5:8-9

Light produces fruit. But a fruit tree doesn't grow on its own; it needs watering. For us to transform and be fruitful, we need to be obedient.

Culture likes to say, "You do you." But when you're walking and living in the light, it's not about doing you but knowing God. The more we know, the more it impacts what we do and how we live to produce fruit. There are three levels of obedience. The first level is have to -- we're obeying because we have no choice -- like a teenager with a curfew. The second level of obedience is need to. We obey out of necessity -- we won't quit our job because we need the paycheck. The final is want to. We obey because we want to please God. Our level of obedience determines our fruit, and our exposure to light determines our level of obedience.

What fruit is evident in your life? Your answer will depend on how much you rely on God as your source of light. The more light you let in, the more you discover God's goodness and the more obedient you'll want to be. Today spend time in the light by reading and thinking about God's word. Choose a Bible verse to live by and the habits you need to put in place to produce fruit. God is lighting your way, and as a child of light, you're made to shine!
