Here Comes the Light – Part 2 – Day 1

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible -- and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.

Ephesians 5:8-13

We once lived in darkness, but in Jesus, we became light. So how are we to carry his light? We're to discover what pleases the Lord.

Everything that becomes illuminated in light reveals God. Light exposes what's wrong in the world, in our homes and in our lives. It also produces fruit. What does it look like when light produces fruit? Women struggle to give birth, but trees don't struggle to produce avocados or apples. Healthy trees produce healthy fruit, and if we're healthy, we produce good fruit. Our bodies work similarly: if we're getting enough nutrients, we develop. But if we're eating wrong things, it can wreak havoc in our body. The food that looks good to us isn't always good for us. If that's true about our physical health, what does it look like for our spiritual and mental health? What we fill ourselves with matters.

Are you listening to what God has to say or what the world says? Think about whether you're producing healthy fruit. If not, what are you putting into your life? If you spend more time scrolling or watching television than you are with God, then you're not allowing light to reveal and expose what's unhealthy in your relationships, mindsets or behaviors. Light makes our darkness visible, and when you're illuminated, you become a light in a dark world.
