BUT NOT // OCTOBER 21, 2020
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9
Paul knew what it was like to face hardship. He also knew there was a big “but not” in the mix, and that made all the difference.
“But not“ is a blessing. It’s God's grace at work in the midst of difficult situations. It provides strength and endurance to keep hope alive.
We have been talked about, lied about, and misrepresented. For every hard pressure, for every perplexity, for every persecution, for every strike and blow, God can insert a but not. It should have crushed you, but it didn’t. It should have killed you, but it didn’t. It should have driven you crazy, but it didn’t. It should have so discouraged you that you quit, but it didn’t.
Read today’s opening verse again. Which part of the verse resonates most with your story? How does it encourage you? In your journal write out a short testimony of how you have experienced a “but not” in your life. If you are open to it, we would love to read your story and celebrate God's grace at work in your life.
