GO BACK TO GO FORWARD // SEPTEMBER 10, 2020
"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.'"
When the prodigal son came to his senses he realized to go forward with his life he needed to go back to his father. In going back he expected to be treated differently. Instead, he was surprised by grace.
We have all had our seasons of making poor decisions, being irresponsible, hurting others, etc. The way to move forward in life is often to go back. It’s important to acknowledge and clean up the messes we have made. We don’t do this to earn forgiveness. We do this because we have been forgiven and it is the right thing to do. And what is God’s response to this? Grace! You might feel like you don’t deserve it, but that is the beauty of grace. Grace is not earned, it is simply received.
Is there something in your past you need to clean up, a relationship you need to get right? If you have confessed it to Jesus he has forgiven you. To move forward in life he may want you to go back and take responsibility. If the Holy Spirit is bringing something to mind commit today to making it right and follow through. Rest assured that a God will meet you with his grace.
