HOPE IN THE LORD // OCTOBER 18, 2021
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.
This verse is often quoted as a favorite, but it becomes even more powerful when we understand the context. The Jewish people were weary and worn out. They lived in exile as captives where they were stripped, ripped and robbed. They were too tired to persevere. Their circumstances were the result of their own poor choices. In the midst of this, the prophet Isaiah showed up with a message of hope. If they would choose to keep their trust in the Lord, he would bring renewal.
Many Christians today can identify with the plight of the Jews. These last eighteen months continue to be rough. People are exhausted, exasperated and expended. Relationships have been cut off and the general consensus is: Why am I so wiped out?
Can you relate? The good news is the promise Isaiah brought to his people is also a promise for you. If you will choose to trust and hope in the Lord, he will bring renewal to your life. Today, meditate on Isaiah 40:31. Where have you placed your hope? What would it look like to put all your hope in the Lord? Take time to pray through this, and then thank the Lord for his promise.
