THE GROWN UP TABLE // NOVEMBER 20, 2023
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
1 Corinthians 13:11
Children don't bear responsibility. They show up to Thanksgiving dinner, run around playing, sit down only when the meal is ready, finish quickly, ask to be excused and rush off to play again. Not once do they think about the preparation that went into meal planning, shopping for food, cleaning the house or preparing the table. As adults, how have we put childish ways behind us?
When we grow up, we become too big to sit at the kids' table. But how often do we still act like a child and bear no responsibility? How are we showing up to the table? Are we waiting to be served, or are we serving? Jesus modeled a life of serving and called us to do the same -- whether it's at the Thanksgiving table, at home, at work, in life or at church. We can all do something to participate by taking our eyes off what someone else is doing for us and creating an experience for others.
How have you put childish ways behind you? Are you waiting to be served, or are you serving others? God has called you to live higher. He's set aside a purpose and destiny for you to serve other people. Ask him which responsibilities he has for you. How is he calling you to build his house? You're not meant to just go to church but to be the church -- serving God and serving others. Albert Einstein said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile."
I WANT TO SERVE OTHERS
