Preparing For Ridiculous - Day 4

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 2:1

When Jesus gave his disciples the task of preaching the gospel to the world, they didn't have the ability to carry it out. They were told to wait until the Holy Spirit came. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit showed up, and the church was birthed!

Peter's idea of building three churches on the mountain was a premature idea. The Holy Spirit had to come for the church to be birthed. Until then, the disciples were told to wait. Waiting was hard then -- it's hard now! But it's so, so important. God's timing is everything. Church is not church without the power of the Holy Spirit.

Hollywood may be able to imitate church -- but it can't replicate it! Without the Holy Spirit, church is just entertainment and motivational speaking. We don't come to church to simply hear a good message and sing a few feel-good songs. We come to encounter God in all of his power! How are you encouraged or challenged by this today? What might it look like to get ready for a God-encounter this Sunday?
