On The Brink - Day 5

... I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life ...

Deuteronomy 30:19

The Israelites were on the plains of Moab, looking out over their Promised Land, the land God said he was giving to them. This land was flowing with milk and honey, and God offered them prosperity from the work of their hands to the fruit of their wombs, from their livestock to the crops of their land. He wanted to make them prosperous, but the choice was theirs to choose life.

Every morning when we wake up, life presents us with uncertainties, with issues we don’t know how -- or even if -- they can be resolved. Sometimes we wake up with a list of issues, with viable threats against our health and well-being, often giving us real reasons to feel afraid. We have to decide who we will give our life to, our time to, our energy to and our commitment to. Because even when things can be very real in our lives, they are -- nevertheless -- not God. That sickness, that positive COVID test, the financial troubles, the haters, the divorce, isolation and quarantine ... those things are all real, but they are not God. Nobody but God is in charge of our purpose and destiny.

So what -- or who -- are you choosing today? Does God -- the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God -- reign in your life? If not, what can you do today to build up some courage into your spirit? You don't have to live afraid and stressed. You don't have to be crippled by what things look like right now. There's a God who is watching over you, who is answering your prayers, who is making a way out of no ways, who can bring life out of death! Do not be dismayed; God will take care of you. But you have to see it to believe it. Spend some time building that courage: get into God's word, spend time in worship, build up your courage and strength ... because your God is greater than all the things life is throwing at you.
