"Go," Jesus replied, "your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
The royal official, whose son was sick, took Jesus at his word and left!
There are times when it is easy to take people at their word. If your boss told you that you were receiving a raise, you'd be pumped! You'd probably be so excited you would make plans to celebrate: “My boss raised my salary! Let’s go out!” We react like that when we hear words we trust. We might not have the money yet, but because we count on what was said, we operate in faith. Because we accepted someone’s words as truth, we act!
How much more should we believe the word of the one who created the universe? We tend to fall into two different categories: the "I have to see it to believe it" or the "I'll take your word for it." Which one represents you? So much of the Christian life comes down to this simple discipline: Taking God at his word.
What has God told you he will do? What has he promised you? Will you trust him? Will you act on what he has said? Take time to reflect on this today through journaling. Then, go act on the word he has given you.
