I Forgive You, But ... Day 3

THERE'S ALWAYS A MATTHIAS // NOVEMBER 16, 2022

So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

Acts 1:23-26

Three years with Jesus did not change Judas' heart. He never really add anything to the ministry during their time together. Contrast that with Peter, who, despite his shortcomings and many mistakes, contributed quite a bit. Peter also experienced the resurrected Jesus, so no matter how bad it seemed or how hurtful it felt, he saw God at work in Judas' betrayal. We need people like Peter who encourage us not to stop praying or give up on God in our pain. After all, there's always a Matthias.

Certain people may not be a fit for our future. What God is turning us into and where he's taking us requires more than what we have. Some may even be a major drag on what he has for us. We need to look out for people who just take. What would we lose if we let him/her go? Are they adding to our life in any way? If not, God may have someone better! The apostles never really kicked Judas out; he left, and they let him go. Why run after and beg him to stay? There are others better than Judas. God had already chosen Matthias to replace the pain of betrayal; they didn't need Judas. God always has something or somebody better.

For every Judas, there's a Matthias. For every Moses, there's a Joshua. For every Elijah, there's an Elisha. The replacement is already on the way. All you have to do is let him go, and pray. Judas wasn't replaced with just anyone. They needed someone with experience who had seen the power of God. What about you? Paul says not to be yoked together with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). Yoked means to "pull their share." If you're doing all the work in a relationship that's out-of-sync, ask yourself who you're yoking yourself with. They may not be a fit for where God wants to take you.
