Jesus sent the disciples on a boat when they found themselves in the middle of a storm. We can be following God's instructions and still end up in a storm!
Life isn't smooth sailing -- whether we're following Jesus or in the world. But we're safest in God's will. The disciples had been with Jesus for some time and were still afraid -- just as we can feel afraid in our storms. We may not know how to deal with our fear, but we can remind ourselves that God led us there and is with us.
Are you feeling like God's deserted you in your storm? If so, encourage yourself in the Lord. Write sticky note reminders that God is with you. Matthew 28:20 reads: "I'm always with you to the end of the age." Psalm 139:7 says: "Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?" Psalm 145:18 says: "The Lord is near to all who call on him ..." Sometimes you need to remind yourself that Jesus may be out of your sight, but you're not out of his reach.
