EMBRACE THE UNKNOWN // MAY 10, 2021
On the third day, a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
Weddings were a big deal in the Jewish community and often lasted an entire week! Now that’s a par-tay! When Jesus was invited, he gladly accepted the invitation and his disciples came with him.
The disciples left everything to follow Jesus -- their careers, their family, their community. It seems ridiculous to leave the known for the unknown! The known is comfortable. The known gives a sense of safety and security. The known entices many people to stay in unhealthy relationships or unsatisfying jobs. But Jesus calls us to trust him as he leads us into the great unknown. It’s here that we find life.
How comfortable are you in letting go of the known and stepping into the unknown with Jesus? Is there something you are holding onto, but Jesus is saying let go? Abundant life is found on the other side of letting go and trusting Jesus. As a church, God is calling us from the unknown to the known as we journey with Jesus. Let’s accept his invitation. Let go, and trust him! Take time to journal on this today, reaffirming your commitment to follow him.
