We believe that every child is a gift from God! Dedicating your child is a way for you as a parent to make a public commitment before God, family, and friends to raise your child and nurture them according to God’s purpose and plan.
What is the difference between infant baptism and child dedication?
At FAITH we believe that baptism is an individual choice, made when a person is old enough to decide for themselves to follow Jesus. Until someone is old enough to understand and make their own choice to follow Christ, God’s grace covers them and there is no need to fear for their salvation.
Here, we practice child dedication, based on scriptural examples of parents dedicating their children to the Lord:
“So now I give him to the Lord, for his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshipped the Lord there. (1 Samuel 1:28)
When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been complete, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. (Luke 2:22)
While we call this ceremony Child Dedication, it is actually a commitment on the part of the parent to raise their child in the ways of the Lord. Our role as the church is to support you in that endeavor.
Do I need to be a member of FAITH to dedicate my child?
No, you don’t need to be a member of FAITH.
At what age can I dedicate my child?
We dedicate children 3 years old and under in our Child Dedication service.
What other requirements do I need to meet before dedicating my child?
You’ll need to attend the Parents’ Class and Orientation before we confirm your participation in the Child Dedication service. The date for the class is listed above.
Can I assign godparents?
Definitely! We welcome the presence of these significant adults who play a supportive role in your child’s spiritual development.
What can I expect during the Child Dedication service?
We are so happy to provide a fun celebration before the actual Dedication service. Your family and friends are invited to join you at a reception planned especially for you and your child. At this celebration, you and your guests are able to enjoy some snacks and photo opportunities to commemorate this happy occasion.
